Obituary for Murl Eugene Craven

uneral Services for Speed Craven, 90, of Brownsboro are scheduled for 10:00 am on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Visitation will be held before the service at 9:30. Services are under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Mr. Craven passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 in Brownsboro.

Speed Craven was born as Murl Eugene Craven to Bessie Shockley and Lynnford Walter Craven on Feb 22, 1926. He was the youngest of three boys. He married Irene Offret on April 27, 1950, and she passed away in 1985.

He was a boxer in the Marines and served in the 1st Marine Division during WWII serving in the Pacific Conflict, and in the Korea War fighting at the Chosin Resevoir. He went into the military at 17 years old but couldn’t go on the front line until he was 18. Speed was a member of the Lightening Bugs, a Harley Davidson Motorcycle Club, loved motorcycles and bought his last one at the age of 79. He was full of life and loved Johnny Cash.

He was preceded in death by his wife Irene, parents.

He is survived by his four children, Terri Bevans of Brownsboro, Texas; April Vincent of Modesto, Ca; Cindy Milhoan of Santa Clarita Ca; and Alan Craven of Gainsville Texas. He is also survived by his former wife Georgene Craven and step children Cheryl Hixson, Ricky Cordova, and Stephan Cordova, all from California. He has been blessed with 36 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren.
