Athens – Memorial Services for George Charles Jones, 81, of Brownsboro will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Barton’s Chapel Assembly of God Church with Bro. Terry Thomison officiating.

Mr. Jones passed away January 5, 2018 in Brownsboro, Texas.

George Charles Jones was born March 1, 1936 in Murchison, Texas the son of Charlie A. Jones and Delia Edwards Jones. He joined the United States Army out of high school; was honorably discharged after his service and then began his career with the Texas State Highway Department; retiring as a State Inspector after 30 years. He grew up in the Barton’s Chapel Community, was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Brownsboro and loved playing church softball. George served one term as the Brownsboro City Judge and was an avid outdoorsman that loved hunting, fishing and cooking. He called family and friends daily, loved to talk, enjoyed playing games and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Loretta Faye Jones; his parents; one brother Darius Jones and step-son Robert Stone.

George is survived by three daughters, Rhonda McRee of Brownsboro, Cindy Mitchell and husband Anthony of Murchison, Dori Harrod of Chandler; one step-daughter Laurie Perry of Chandler; two sisters, Francile Miller, Wanda Ball; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family of Athens.
