A Funeral Mass for Carmen Mata of Murchison is scheduled for 10:00 am, Saturday, April 7, 2018 at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Athens with Father Nolan Lowry officiating.

Carmen passed on April 3, 2018 in Tyler, Texas.

Maria del Carmen Rodriguez Mata was born July 7, 1968 in Carranco, Villa de Reyes, San Luis Potosi, Mexico the daughter of Norberto Rodriguez and Maria Catalina Torres Rodriguez. She was a member of the St. Edwards Catholic Church, loved helping people especially her family and never expected anything in return. Carmen was a true homemaker in every sense of the word, loved cooking and spending her time taking care of her family. She was a loving wife, mother sister and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all she knew and loved.

She is survived by her loving husband Joel Mata of Murchison; her parents, Norberto and Maria Rodriguez of Mexico; four children, Talia Guevara and husband Jose, Arely Mata, Joel Mata Jr., Joey Mata all of Murchison; nine siblings, San Juana Valdez and husband David of Athens, Martha Orta of Mexico, Norberto Rodriguez Jr. and wife Maria of Mexico, Concepcion Mata and husband Fernando of Mexico, Joel Rodriguez and wife Belen of Athens, Mary Nino and husband Nitos of Mexico, Elias Rodriguez and wife Concepcion of Athens, Alvaro Rodriguez and Evelia of Athens, Luis Rodriguez and wife Karla of Athens; one grandchild Jaden Guevara and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
