I'll never forget the one summer my sister, Chauncy, and I were staying with Nina and PawPaw and I nearly got my bottom "tore up like a sow's bed" by Nina because of PawPaw. :)
Nina and Chauncy had went shopping or to the store for something, and it was just PawPaw and I at the farm house. He was always singing and teaching us grandkids new songs, funny songs, or makeing up new words to old songs. Well this particlar day, he and I were talking about an old song "Mama don't 'llow(allow)" that I had heard on an old VHS tape about the story of "The Woman In the Shoe." Now, for those who knew him well, y'all know he loved getting Nina riled up, so he decided to teach me to sing that song as follows:
Nina don't 'llow no guitar playin' in here.
Nina don't 'llow no guitar playin' in here.
Well, I don't care what Nina don't 'llow,
I'll play my guitar anyhow!
Nina don't 'llow no guitar playin' in here.
(continue singing with whatever other instruments/games etc. that Nina wouldn't 'llow)
He thought it would be nice to sing for Nina when they got home. I was nervous and scared, but PawPaw reassured me it would all be okay. When Nina and Chauncy got home, he and I told Nina I had a song to sing for her that I had just learned that day with PawPaw. Nina always encouraged us grandkids to sing and enjoyed hearing us sing, so she was very excited to hear our song. Well... suffice it to say, he got her alright! Her eyes got big and she let out a big "WHAT?!?!" before PawPaw started laughing so hard he started to cry. I never will forget that day.
