Funeral services for Helen Splawn, 85, of Athens, are scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Sunday, October 4, 2015 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Athens.
Helen Splawn passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 in Athens.
Helen Fern Akin Splawn was born August 6, 1930 in Henderson County, Texas the daughter of Joseph D. Akin and Exer Lambright Akin. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her son Johnnie Wayne Splawn, especially their card games. In her younger years she enjoyed sewing, babysitting and caring for the children of her family and friends. Helen volunteered helping the sick and needy all around the area. She loved spending time with her family, was a loving mother, aunt, great and great-great aunt, sister in law, cousin, and friend who will be missed by all she knew and loved.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Johnnie Splawn and numerous brothers and sisters.

Helen is survived by her son Johnnie Wayne Splawn of Palestine; one sister in law Violet Holley of Montalba; numerous nieces; nephews; great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews; cousins and friends.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Randy Wilbanks, Kevin Halbert, Mark Lambright, and Jeff Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Holley, Glenn Holley,Avon Holley, and Ronnie Holley.
