Funeral Services for Buford Ray Hayes, 85, of Athens will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 9:00 AM at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Pastor Billy Smith officiating. Services are under the direction of the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Family of Athens.

Mr. Hayes went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 29, 2016.

Buford Hayes was born on September 19, 1930 in Dallas County, son of Ira Jesse Hayes and Mamie Hayes. He married the love of his life, Reba Mae Dunn in 1954 in Cedar Hill, Texas. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, farming, and gardening. Buford was a baseball and softball coach and was honorably discharged from the United States Army. He was a great family man and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Reba of Athens; children, Rick Hayes and wife Sharon of Haltom City, TX and
Deborah Bertelsman and husband David of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Valerie Davis, Eric Hayes, Matthew Bertelsman, and Joshua Bertelsman; and one great grandchild Barrett Hayes.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016 from 8-9 AM at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home
